Changhua receives new taxi bus to help elderly, disabled
Taipei, Oct. 1 (CNA) Elderly and disabled residents of Changhua County can look forward to a new way to get around, after county Magistrate Cho Po-yuan accepted a “rehabilitation bus” Tuesday donated by the Enterprise Women’s Association.
The NT$1.7-million (US$57,656) taxi bus is the 36th to enter the county’s fleet, which numbered just six buses when the service was introduced over 10 years ago, Cho said.
Changhua plans to add another 10 of the buses, an on-call taxi service for elderly and immobile passengers who may have trouble hailing and riding in a regular cab.
Rehabilitation buses are available on request at night and on weekends and charge only one third of regular taxi fees, while passengers belonging to low-income families can get an extra discount or even free ride.
Cho was joined at the handing over ceremony by Chen Chih-ming, head of Changhua’s Department of Social Affairs, and Lissa Pan, president of the Enterprise Women’s Association.
