The first batch of 20 cabs for disabled people in the Greater Tainan Area was put into operation today (24). Starting from today, the disabled-friendly transportation environment — “The Last Mile” began to take shape in the Greater Tainan Area. Each cab for the disabled could carry 1 wheel chair, with 4 regular seats for the convenience of the disabled, elderly, and injured people and their companies. All of them could enjoy the “7-star” transportation offered in Tainan.
The Greater Tainan Cabs for the Disabled was operated by Taiwan Taxi, contracted by Tainan City Government. It was launched onto service in the square of National Tainan Living Art Center by the Third Parking Lot. Hosted by Lai Ching-teh, the Mayor of Tainan City, Li Cyong-shu, the Manager of Taiwan Taxi, was invited to attend the inauguration ceremony, in which she presented a model cab to the Mayor. After presenting the flag to the Cabs for the Disabled, Mayor Lai Ching-teh pointed out in his speech that there were 63 low-floor buses, 107 rehab vans, and 1 rehab mini-bus. After the launching of the Cabs for the Disabled, the last puzzle of the disability user friendly transportation system in Tainan was completed.
Led by Mayor Lai, the guests and officers reviewed the taxi team, which was comprised of 20 new Volkswagen multivans. The back of the vans were redesigned with ramps for the convenience of wheelchairs. Equipped with ramps, wheelchairs could enter the cabs directly, eliminating the troubles of contracting the wheelchairs before getting into the cabs. Mayor Lai also helped a disabled person to get on the taxi and rod with her around the Civic Center. The passengers were all satisfied with the roomy space inside the vans, which were also very steady and comfortable.
C.Y.Chang, the Director-General of the Bureau of Transportation expressed that the cabs for the disabled people service the public 24 hours a day. Operating along flexible routes, all people could take these cabs at the same rate as regular taxis. People could hail these taxis along the sidewalks, just as any other cabs, saving the trouble of calling and booking. In the future, disabled people could take these taxis conveniently if they were traveling by themselves or with their friends and relatives. It is highly convenient service to all road users.
Director-General C.Y.Chang pointed out that all the drivers of the cabs for the disabled people were all well-trained to offer ” 7-heart service” — caring, concern, considerate, careful, patience, contented, and dedicated services to passengers. Insisting on constructing a disabled friendly access and transportation environment to the people, the government was enthusiastic in providing efficient and convenient transportation to them with high respect and excellent quality. In short, it was an exemplar of the “transportation for the people” in Tainan.
Hsieh Hui-hsiung, the Director of the Department of Transportation expressed that its rate was the same with regular taxis. Its initial rate was NT$85. If people needed any help from the Cabs for the Disabled People just call Taiwan Taxi at 405-88888 by home phone or 55688 by cell phone. All customers were welcomed.
